On the evening of Wednesday, January 01, 2025, Zelda Harris Childers, 83, of Nebo, passed away at UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton. 

Zelda was a native of McDowell County, born on August 22, 1941 to the late William George Harris and Bonnie Hudgins Harris.  

Zelda worked and dedicated over 40 years of her life in the health care industry. She enjoyed trips to Cherokee to gamble and also loved to travel and go to yard sales. Spending time with her family was very important to her. She was a very loving mother and grandmother who showed her love in many ways especially through her quilting. She would spend many hours making quilts for her family. They will treasure her beautiful quilts forever. Zelda will be greatly missed.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Aaron Childers; son, Tony Hollifield; brother, Russell Harris and sisters, Leona Harris, Bea Dillingham and Rosetta Larson. 

Surviving Zelda are her daughter, Judy Hollifield; two grandchildren, Brandy Fender (Chris Sigmon) and T.J. Hollifield (Jessica); Many four great grandchildren, Kraggen, Easton, Isaac and Haley; many special nieces and nephews and her little dog pookie. 

 The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
