Mr. William Hobert Smith, age 85, of Nebo, North Carolina, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Friday, July 9th, 2021 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville, North Carolina. He was born to Lonnie and Angie Smith in Burnsville, North Carolina on July 26th, 1935.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict from August 1958-July 1960. He worked in supervision in the cultured marble industry most of his career, but his favorite role in life was being “Papaw”.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by brothers Ray, Carl, Troy, and Joseph; and sisters, Ollie, Rose, and Pauline.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Violet Atkins Smith, of the home; three daughters, Angie Worley (Darrell), Donna Sawyer (Kevin), and Kathy Silver (Brad); six grandchildren, Ashley Johnson (Clayton), Caleb Worley (Joy), Canaan Silver, Nehemiah Worley, Lake Silver, and Kamden Silver; two great grandchildren, Sawyer and Silas Johnson; and two sisters, Ethel Bolick and Mabel Pittman.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Pastor Caleb Worley and Pastor Tim Macon officiating. Interment will follow at Nealsville Church of God Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army. The family will receive friends from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Flowers are acceptable and appreciated. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Smith’s memory are asked to consider a charity of one’s choice and/or hospice of one’s choice.
