William Harold "Bill" Price, Sr., aged 86, passed away on August 8, 2024, in Boone, North Carolina. Born on July 10, 1938, in Newark, New Jersey, Bill led a life marked by dedication to his family, country, and community.
Bill graduated from Duncan U. Fletcher High School before earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He served honorably as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army for two years, a period during which he demonstrated commendable leadership and commitment.
Following his military service, Bill embarked on a notable career beginning at the Naval Aviation Rework Facility. He later transitioned to a civil service role at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville, where he continued to impact positively on national defense. After retirement, Bill returned to school to earn his Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Florida. This laid the foundation for his passion for working with individuals navigating sobriety. Bill was deeply committed to volunteer work, notably introducing Alcoholics Anonymous groups in multiple prisons across North Carolina over 14 years, aiding in the rehabilitation and support of many individuals.
An avid golfer, Bill also enjoyed mentoring individuals through sobriety, playing duplicate bridge, watching various sports, and birdwatching. These hobbies reflected his love for life and continuous engagement in community and personal betterment.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Martha Price. He leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Mildred “Mickie” Price, and her son William Michael Adkinson; his children, Sharon Price Kane and her husband John, Bill Price and his wife Lumen, Dianne Price Waters and her husband Mike, Robert Price and his wife Sabrina. He was a cherished grandfather to Jessica, Anthony, Haley, Devin, Hayden, Caroline, Emily, Alivia, Cody, Zachary, and Nichole; and a great-grandfather to John-Wyatt and Lincoln. Bill will also be missed by his sister Doris, as well as his brother Ron and his wife Nancy.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held at the Land Harbor Clubhouse in Linville, North Carolina, on August 25, 2024, from 2-4pm.
