William Luther Powell

William Luther Powell, age 71, of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Deer Park Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Caldwell County, Luther was born on September 4, 1947 to the late Robert and Marjorie Dula Powell.


He is preceded in death by wife, Jean Marie Corpening Powell, a son, William Luther Powell, Jr.; one sister, Genive Powell Connelly and two brothers, Roy Powell and Paul Gaither Powell.


Luther attended Lenoir High School and was a United States Marine veteran. He enjoyed fishing and singing. He worked at numerous furniture factories in Lenoir including Broyhill for many years. He was a kind hearted person who was known to be loved by everyone.


Luther is survived by two daughters, Margie Marketta Clayton, married to Isaac Clayton and Katina Powell; siblings, Robert Lee Powell, Harry T. Powell, Albert Allen Powell and Delorise Ragins, married to Andre L. Ragins, three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


A funeral service to celebrate Luther’s life will take place on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Beam Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., one hour
prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Harpertown Cemetery in Lenoir.
