William Arvile Penley, 89, of Marion, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023.
He was born in Caldwell County on August 3, 1934 to the late Julius Nathan Penley and Bertha Tolbert Penley. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Radford Penley; grandson, Richard McCloud; and his siblings, Monroe Penley, Ralph Penley, Margie Lawing, Maggie Miller, and Carl Penley.
Mr. Penley was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a hard-working man who could do plumbing, electrical work, and everything in between. He was a talented wood worker as well and built things made to last. Though he was very soft spoken, you could tell the love he had for his family was great. He loved the Lord with all his heart and prayed faithfully even through his struggles with dementia. He was honest, loyal, and faithful to all he met.
He is survived by five children, Rhonda McCLoud (Robert), William Penley (Linda), Arvelene Hudgins (Kelvin), Jeff Penley (Tracy), and Paul Penley; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a special friend, Ruth Elliott.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastor JB Cope officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m.
