William “Marshall” Bates, age 57, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021 after an extended illness. His loving family was at his side.
A native of McDowell County, he was born on November 14, 1963 to the late George L. Bates and Shirley R. Bates.
Marshall enjoyed working with his hands, and he was a talented woodworker. He was a carpenter by trade. He was a likeable guy who never met a stranger. Marshall always rooted for the underdogs in life and would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it.
He enjoyed motorcycles and fishing, but most of all, Marshall was a true family man. He had a special place in his heart for the babies in the family. Marshall, who had an extraordinary smile and a sparkle in his eye, will also be remembered as a lady’s man.
Marshall is survived by his six siblings, Debra Peters (Mike), Teresa Kelly, Linda Hensley (Donald), Betty Ward (Jesse), Tony Bates (Vicki), Rhonda Condrey (Shawn); nieces and nephews who will remember Marshall as a one of a kind uncle and friend, Wesley, Kyle, Bo, Jill, Brandon, Kayla, Devin, Josey, Hayden, Noah, Destiny, Navasha, Michael, and Jeff; and his special grandchildren, Khole, Anna, and Harper.
A memorial service to celebrate Marshall’s life will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021 in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service & Crematory at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Dennis Hensley and T-Jay Addison officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Flowers are accepted and appreciated.
