William “Don” Sowers of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at his residence at the age of 78. A native of McDowell County, born June 05, 1939, he was the son of the late Joe and Edith Laughter Sowers.
Don’s wife of 49 years, Shirley Sowers, who passed away on September 15, 2015; one brother, Bobby Sowers; and one sister, Becky Boyd, also preceded him in death.
An avid golfer, Don who thought the world of his family, loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of First Baptist Church of Old Fort.
He is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Sowers House and husband, Steve; one sister, Linda Queen and husband, Allen; and his two precious grandchildren, Joshua House and Shea House.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Old Fort with Pastor Drew Dalton officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at McDowell Memorial Park with military honors provided by the United States Army.
