William Jennings “Wig” Deaton, age 91, of Nebo, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. A native of McDowell County, William was born on June 23, 1930 to the late Arthur and Alma Wilson Deaton.
He is preceded in death by one brother, Carl Deaton.
William was a member of Nebo United Methodist Church and was a proud United States Army combat veteran who served in the Korean War. He formally worked for Clinchfield Mills but later retired from Bost Bakery following thirty years of service. William was an avid fisherman and everyone knew he was the G.O.A.T. of crappie fishing. He also was a North Carolina Tarheel fan. He loved his family greatly, but especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of sixty-three years, Dottie Young Deaton; two children, Marianne Deaton and James Eric Deaton (Audrey) and two grandchildren, Nick and Natalee Deaton.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service with Reverends Kelly Dotson and Jerry Ruppe officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Wilson-Ballew Cemetery.
