William Charles “Charlie” Effler, age 67, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville. Charlie was born on March 1, 1950 in McDowell County, North Carolina to the late Calvin and Mary Lou Ferguson Effler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Kathy Levine.
A loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, Charlie adored his family, especially his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed to “loafer around” and listen to country, gospel or bluegrass music, but most of all, spending time with his family, especially during the holidays. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he was a faithful member of Old Fort Free Will Baptist Church; and in 2008 he rededicated his life to the Lord.
Left to cherish his memories are his four children, Shane Effler and his wife, Heather, Brent Effler and his wife, Emily, Jessica O’Neil; and Matthew Effler and his wife, Jayme; and one brother, Steve Effler and his wife, Donna. Charlie is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, one great grandson on the way; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mr. Effler’s life will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Old Fort Free Will Baptist Church, 311 Orchard Street, Old Fort, with Pastor Johnny Chastain officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial donations be made to the Effler Family, 2170 Rutherford Road, Marion, North Carolina 28752.
