William "Butch" Fredrick Hardy, Sr.

William “Butch” Fredrick Hardy, Sr., age 62, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Grace Hospital in Morganton.  A native of Scioto County, Ohio, born on December 24, 1953, he was the son of the late William Hardy and Lee Alice Watkins Carter.

Butch, who was a Chevrolet fan, enjoyed watching NASCAR and was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He was a member of Columbus, Ohio Masonic Lodge #0670, where he was a Master Mason and of the United Auto Worker Union.  Butch was a veteran of the United States Army.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters.

He is survived by three children, Bilenda Jo Berry (Johnny) of Columbus, Ohio, William Fredrick Hardy, Jr. (Jodee) of Nebo; and Tressa Renee Herring (Zachary) of Marion; one sister, Sandra Hardy Ford of Dayton, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Dejavonna Parker, Deajah Berry, Xandrya Berry, Haylee Hardy, Hannah Hardy, Lilly Herring and Brayden Morgan; and his former wife and special friend, Cathy Hardy.  A special cousin, Connie Young and special nephew, David Thomas, along with their families, also survive.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Dennis Burleson officiating.  Interment, with military and masonic rites, will follow at the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
