Wallace E. “Shorty” Thigpen, 71, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020 at his residence.
He was born in Sumter, South Carolina on December 11, 1948 and was the son of the late Wallace and Laura Lowden Thigpen. Known as a hard-working man, he worked at Ethan Allen for 19 years and later retired.
Shorty loved the outdoors, and he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army. Wallace truly missed his wife, Patsy Willis Thigpen, who passed away January 08, 2016, and now he is Home with her.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Thigpen.
Those left to cherish his memory are two children, Laura Lindner of Marion and Edward “Eddie” Thigpen of Old Fort; four grandchildren, Edward Alexander Gatch, Angel-Mae Louise Thigpen, Jacob C. Wallace Thigpen, and Cheyanne Lindner; and one brother, David Stamey of Tennessee. He is also survived by his beloved ferrets, Grissley and Elvis.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Thigpen’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Richard Merritt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Entombment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
