Virginia “Judy” Childers Patton, 78, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022 at her home with her family by her side.
A native of McDowell County, Judy was born on June 05, 1943 to the late Charles Hagan Childers and Mary Martin Childers. She is also preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Judy had a very nurturing spirit, and her family was always her first priority. She was a problem solver and enjoyed organizing people and activities to make life better for all. Many sought her advice and opinion. Judy had a passion and true talent for cooking that she passed on to her granddaughters. She will be remembered for her chicken and dumplings. She always made sure others were taken care of before she sat at the table herself. Judy also loved sewing and made handmade clothing when her granddaughters were growing up. Judy worked as an administrator for Pinnacle Rest Home and also managed the Econolodge.
Most of all, Judy loved the Lord. She was a fine Christian lady and a member of Victory Temple Full Gospel Church for 24 years. Together with her husband, they traveled all over the western United States in the mission field building churches.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jim Patton, Sr.; two children, Genny Patton and Jim Patton, Jr. (Ronda); three granddaughters, Rebekah Wright (Aaron), Katelin Willis (Josh), and Genna Thompson (Christopher); two great granddaughters who she dearly loved, Faithlyn and Gracelyn; one brother, James Childers; special family members, Stephanie, Garrette, and Brooklyn; many special nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Donna Stevens.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Victory Temple Full Gospel Church with Revs. Pete McCombs and Walker Toney officiating. Burial will follow at the Pinnacle Community Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for the special care given to Judy and her family over the last year and a half.
