Officer Virgil Nicholas Varrone, 83, of Marion, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
He was born in Far Rockaway, NY on December 8, 1939 to Italian immigrants. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Varrone; parents, Giuseppe and Carmela Varrone; brother, Anthony Varrone; and a grandson, Nicholas Brockner.
Virgil was a lifelong public servant. He retired from the New York City Police Department following seven years of service. He later worked for the Marion Police Department as well as the Marion Correctional Institution where he was an armorer. He was well respected among his colleagues. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he also enjoyed guns. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Virgil had a big heart for animals, especially rabbits. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his children, William Varrone and spouse, Richelle and Julianne Adams and companion, William; stepson, Peter Tybeck; grandchildren, Aaron Adams, Rachel Adams, Lily Adams, Daniel Adams, Patricia Danganan, and Emily Tybeck; great grandchildren, Hailey Bruner, Callie Adams, Oliver Adams, Andrew Tybeck, and Samantha Tybeck; and two siblings, Henry Varrone and Rose Marie Varrone Klein.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Father Carl Kaltreider will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
