Victor Duane Clark was freed from pain and suffering early Saturday morning, February 1, 2025 at the Hospice Center at the Veterans Hospital in Oteen, NC after a period of extended illness.

Duane was born in Mitchell County to the late Steve and Lorine Autrey Clark. He lived most of his life in McDowell County. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Joe Clark.

Duane was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He served his country during the Viet Nam war with the 1st Cavalry Division.

Surviving are his high school sweetheart and wife of 57 years, Janet Duncan Clark; his son, Jason Daniel Clark (wife, Tonya Smythers Clark) whom he always expressed pride and joy in saying his name. Also surviving are his two granddaughters, Hannah Clark and Ashley Clark. These two girls were the light of his universe. He had a special glow in his eyes being with them. A brother, Tom Clark (wife, Mackelene) and a sister, Rebekah Thomas (husband, Jan) also survive him. Numerous nieces, nephews, and friends survive him. Among his friends surviving are his church family whom he loved and respected, work friends and acquaintances, and a special group of friends which he went to high school with and enjoyed eating breakfast together. He loved to tell tales on them and they were always eager to return the favor.

Duane was a lover of the outdoors. He loved backpacking, whitewater rafting and kayaking, hunting, deep sea fishing, camping, and traveling across the country.

He was a compassionate man who was strong in his faith in believing in God and serving in many different positions in the Marion Church of Christ. He would help anyone hungry or in need of other necessities. He always said, “You never go wrong when you lend a helping hand.”
