Vergie Gaynelle Schism Blanton

Vergie Gaynelle Schism Blanton, age 77, of Marion, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Autumn Care of Marion.

A native of Avery County, she was born June 6, 1947 to the late James Garfield Schism and Wilma June McKinney Schism. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Clayton Hedman; and brother-in-law, Ray Gibbs.

Gaynelle worked in the furniture industry for a number of years and was a very skilled seamstress. She was a longtime member of Victory Temple Full Gospel Church. Gaynelle was always ready to share her talents for the church and to the glory of God, especially with arts and crafts projects. She was a loving wife, mother, and grammy more than anything else in the world. Gaynelle will be fondly remembered for her unique ability to make wonderful meals with very few groceries. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Blanton; four children, Tommy Clayton (Teri), Brad Clayton (Paula), Chesa Blanton Woody (Bill), and Dustin Blanton (Kristina); one sister, Vicki Gibbs; one brother, Jimmy Schism (Teresa); twelve grandchildren including Jacob Hutchinson, James Woody, Fred Woody, Brannon Blanton, Zeke Blanton, and Cierra Clayton; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at McDowell Memorial Park.
