Velva Lou Franklin

On the evening of Tuesday, November 12, 2019, Velva Lou Buchanan Franklin, age 76, of Marion, North Carolina passed away at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center. A native of Mitchell County, Velva was born on July 26, 1943 to the late Clarence and Ethel Thomas Buchanan.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Genevieve Buchanan Holder, Dorothy Buchanan Trivette and three brothers, Burt Buchanan, Calvin Buchanan and Harold Buchanan.

Velva was a former member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Spruce Pine, which she called her home church even after moving away. She was a former business owner and long-time manager and bookkeeper for Jim Childers and Linda Isaacs. Velva was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother and will be missed by everyone.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Brian Franklin (Carrie) and Chris Franklin (Doris); one brother, Dr. Rob Buchanan (Martha) and four grandchildren, Alexandria, Victoria, Marlee and Roby Franklin.

A private service honoring her life will be held.
