Vanessa Marie Olson

Vanessa Marie Wiggins Olson, 61, of Asheboro, North Carolina and formerly of Marion, North Carolina, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at her parent’s residence.

A native of McDowell County, she was born on January 20, 1959 to Larry Gene Wiggins and Marie Jones Wiggins, of Marion.

Vanessa earned her Bachelor’s degree from Warren Wilson College and her Master’s from Appalachian State University. She served as an elementary school librarian for Asheboro City Schools for the majority of her career. At one time, she served as a church pianist. She loved kids, music, reading, dogs, and helping anyone in need. Vanessa briefly sold real estate. She had a special place in her heart for veterans, and she had written to shut-in veterans for many years. She was loved by everyone she contacted.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Lillie Wiggins and Dewey and Iva Jones.

In addition to her parents, those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Douglas Olson; two siblings, Veronica Wiggins and Michael Wiggins (Linda); a niece, Autumn Wiggins Essick (Branden); a special friend, Emma Sutton; a special cousin, Cannie Jones; her beloved canine companion, Piper; and extended family and beloved friends too numerous to name.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 01, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Pastor Joe Yelton officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
