Valree Owensby

Valree Owensby, age 69, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Mission Hospital McDowell following a brief illness.  Born in Yancey County, North Carolina on October 1, 1948, she was the daughter of the late George and Callie Robinson.

A loving mother, grandmother and sister, Valree enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, doing crafts, sewing; and was an avid dog lover.  A jack of all trades, during the holidays, Valree loved making wreaths. 

She is survived by four children, Robert Alden Owensby (Lisa) of Waynesville, Lisa Lorraine Patrick (John) of Marion, Joseph Hayden Owensby (Vickie) of Brevard and Cassidy Lynn Barnes of Burnsville; nine siblings, Wanda Strickland (Kenneth) of Marion, Gordia Robinson of Burnsville, Leta Shuford (Jim) of Burnsville, Kurl Robinson (Pat) of Burnsville, Danny Robinson (Doris) of Marion, Larry Robinson (Barbara) of Morganton, Joe Robinson (Teresa) of Asheville, Dena Robinson (Kathy) of Marion and Ann Duncan of Asheville.  Valree is also survived by five grandchildren, Kayla Owensby, Jesse Hensley (Jada), Kane Owensby (Sarah), Courtney Hensley and Keely Owensby; five great grandchildren, Landon Owensby, Alayah Owensby, Tehya Owensby, Dakota Owensby and Jayleigh Hensley; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Valree’s wishes, a memorial service will be held at a later date at the home. 

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation in her memory are asked to consider your local animal shelter and/or animal rescue facility.
