Troy “Pop” Lee Roland, loving father, grandfather and brother, age 79, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Burke Hospice & Palliative Care in Valdese with his loving family by his side. A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, he was born on February 18, 1940 to the late Virgil and Vonnie Self Roland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Jo Pyatt Roland, who passed away June 09, 2019; one brother, Bobby Roland; and his baby brother and sister.
A member of Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church in Nebo; Troy was co-owner of T&D Motor Sales which later became T&D Wrecker Service in Marion where he drove a rollback for 15 years. Mr. Roland had a love for cars, enjoyed being outdoors, but most of all, he loved being with his family.
Troy is survived by three children, Donnie Roland (Amie), Jo Anne Sherman and Roy Lee Roland; three brothers, Ned Roland (Inez), Jack Roland and Wayne Roland (Gail); six grandchildren, Mark Lamb, Matt Lamb (Stacy), Sierra Wylie (Tory), Chelsea Sherman (Lorenzo Kennedy), Austin Roland (Sierra) and Travis Sherman; five great grandchildren, Addalynn, Ryker, Camden “Peanut”, Reagan and Mason and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Donald Justice officiating. Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
