Tommy Lee Rumfelt "Rube"

January 14, 1946 — March 12, 2016

Tommy Lee Rumfelt “Rube” age 70, of Marion, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Burke Hospice & Palliative Care in Valdese, following an extended illness.  Born in McDowell County, North Carolina on January 14, 1946, he was the son of the late Rosco James Rumfelt and Ethel May Pack Rumfelt.

Tommy was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 1965.  Following graduation, he attended Charlotte Barber School and in the late 60’s and early 70’s he began working for Bill Greenlee Barbershop, City Barber Shop and Frank Halls Barber Shop.  After 30 years of service working for Burlington Industries, which then became Galey and Lord, Tommy retired.

A good hearted man, who never met a stranger, Tommy, in his spare time, enjoyed fishing and camping.  He loved wood working.  At one time, for the McSmiles School Program, he proudly made bird houses and bird feeders.  A loving husband, father, papaw, brother, and friend, Tommy adored the time he spent with his grandsons.  He was a member of Hicks Chapel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Lois Anne Rumfelt; one daughter, Lora Anne Jaynes (Michael); one sister, Patricia McKinney; three brothers, Ronald Rumfelt, Talmadge Rumfelt (Gennie) and Steve Rumfelt; three precious grandsons, Zachary, Luke and Rylee Jaynes and several nieces and nephews.  Special friends, Roy and Eunice Vallini, J.D. and Anita Dulaney, Raul and Sharon Guzman and Brian and Martha Zimmerman, also survive.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Rumfelt will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Hicks Chapel Baptist Church with Revs. Bob Buhl, Dean Owensby and Chad Wise officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
