Thurston Guy Haynes, Jr.

Thurston Guy Haynes, Jr., age 83, of Marion, North Carolina, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at his residence.  A native of McDowell County, born December 15, 1935, he was the son of the late Guy and Evelyn Goforth Haynes. 

He was preceded in death by, in addition to his parents, one sister, Jean Woosley. 

An avid banjo picker, Thurston was fond of being outdoors, especially when it came to hunting or fishing.  He will be remembered for telling “tall tales”. 

He is survived by three children, Franklin Haynes (Mary), Karen Hudgins (Travis) and James Haynes; three sisters, Eunice Hartshorn, Linda Presnell and Gail Bowman; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, May 11, 2019 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the home of Karen and Travis on Fat Wall Road in Marion.  

In keeping with Thurston’s wishes, a private interment will be held at Glenwood Cemetery.
