Thomas Brevard Rutherford

Thomas Brevard Rutherford, 68, of Morganton, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at UNC Health Blue Ridge.

Thomas was born on June, 20, 1954 to the late Willis Albert Frances and Jo Ann Rutherford. He enjoyed watching scary movies but westerns were his favorite. Thomas loved all of his family especially his mother and dog Coco. He was a proud US Army Veteran.

He is preceded in death by his mother who passed away the same day as Thomas; his companion of 34 years Madeline Hicks and a brother Tony Rutherford.

Those left to cherish his memory are a daughter, Renee Rutherford; a stepdaughter Amy Hicks (John); a stepson Arvin “Hot Rod” Hicks; a sister, Joycelyn Tate; two brothers, David Rutherford and Larry Boyce; Five grandchildren, Ashley Boykin (B.J.), Jesse Hicks (Kylie), Cameron Hicks-Kim, Sebastian Hicks-Kim and Griffin Hicks-Kim along with five great grandchildren, he is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service on Monday, October 31, 2022 at 2:00 pm with the Revs. Letisha Williams and Arvin Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. The burial will take place following the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
