Thomas E. Helms

Thomas E. Helms (Iron Hand), age 48, of the Glenwood Community, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at his residence.  A native and lifelong resident of McDowell County, born December 6, 1967, he was the son of the late Douglas and Ruth Hawkins Helms. 

Thomas, who never met a stranger, enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting antiques, but most of all, he loved spending time with his grandson, Braison. 

Mr. Helms is survived by his two children, Haley Helms and Thomas Helms; one sister, Wendy Gibson (Mike); six brothers, Robin Helms (Sharon), Dougan Helms, Toney Helms (Rhonda), David Helms, Darrell Helms (Kim) and Heath Helms (Anna) and his precious grandson, Braison Bollinger.  Thomas is also survived by his adoptive father, Clyde Hollifield.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Glenwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating.  Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
