Thomas “Don” Kirkley, 90, of Marion, departed to be with the Lord shortly after midnight on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at the CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.
A native of Pageland, South Carolina, Don was born November 13, 1934 to the late James Kirkley and Ida Jordan Kirkley. Also preceding him in death were six siblings, Jack Kirkley (Betty), Joe Kirkley (Margie), Lonnie Kirkley (Georgia), Daniel Kirkley (Alice), Doris Holland (Gene), and Larry Kirkley.
A devoted member of Grace Baptist Church, Don cherished his church family and faithfully attended as long as his health allowed. Don's professional life was marked by his dedicated work in the flexo printing business, where he spent many years.
In addition to his career achievements, Don proudly served in the United States Army for two years, holding a position in the Signal Corps while stationed in Germany. His military service is a testament to his dedication to duty and country. Beyond his professional and military contributions, Don had a deep passion for gardening. He possessed an incredible green thumb, cultivating a diverse array of flowers and vegetables. This love for nature not only brought him joy but also allowed him to share the fruits of his labor with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Teresa Kirkley; two daughters, Donna Kirkley Simpson (Mark) and Gwen Kirkley Hansen (Elmer); three grandchildren, Emily Simpson-Keyes (Alex), Luke Simpson, and Erik Hansen (Brittany); three great-grandchildren, Lorelai, Emma, and Avery; and two siblings, Connie Black (Ed) and Neil Kirkley (Paula).
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 2, 2025 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 930 Shady Lane, in Marion. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Dr. Eric Grindstaff. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
