Thelma Bruner

During the early morning hours of Sunday, January 19, 2020, Ms. Thelma Sturgeon Bruner, age 87 passed away after several years of declining health at Autumn Care of Marion. The daughter of the late Clyde Sturgeon and Hattie Clayton Sturgeon, she was born in Somerset Kentucky on June 10, 1932.

Thelma originally being from Somerset Kentucky, moved to Marion in the early 1940’s when her fathers health began declining so her mother could be near family and work at the Marion Cotton Mill in East Marion. Thelma remained in the East Marion area for her whole life. Following her retirement at age 65 from the City of Marion, she worked for several local businesses including Colonels Pantry, Samir’s Convenience Store and lastly Dollar General, where she worked until her eightieth year.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved daughter, Rhonda Owenby (Wayne); two grandchildren, Monica Ray (Daniel), and Cameron Owenby (LeAnn); six great grandchildren, Hunter and Finley Ray, and Kayley, Kassidy, Kinsley and Jacob Owenby.

A funeral service to celebrate Thelma’s life will be held on Wednesday January 22, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Dennis Burleson, Mrs. Josephine Pyatt, and Rev. Cameron Owenby officiating, with reading and special presentations by great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

A private procession through East Marion and interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery following the funeral service.
