On the morning of Thursday, October 31, 2024, Ted Roger Elliott, 89, passed away at Autumn Care of Marion.
He was born in McDowell County on November 22, 1934 to the late Paul and Odell Elliott. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Elizabeth Morgan Elliott; sister, Mildred “Tootie” Elliott Ledbetter; and a grandson, Andrew G. Cooper.
Roger was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church where he loved his Pastor Jimmy Upton and the church family. Roger served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. He was honored and very much enjoyed the training, travels, and service to his country.
Until January of 1985, Roger worked 25 years for United Merchants (Old Fort Finishing). Subsequently, he worked approximately 15 years for Collins and Aikman in Old Fort. Finally, he came out of retirement and worked 8 years for McDowell County.
Roger’s life and passions consisted of his deep-rooted love and faith in God and his love and devotion to his family. He treasured his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the amazing quality time spent with his precious brothers. His ability to fix anything with duct tape and ty wire was at the top of the list!
Roger is survived by five children, Michael Keith Elliott, Lisa Elliott Edwards (James), Roger “David” Elliott, Lori Elliott Cooper (Len), and Timothy “Tim” Elliott; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his three brothers, Jack Elliott (Sandy), Charles Elliott (Nancy), and Donnie Elliott.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Mr. Jeff Carver officiating. In case of inclement weather, the service will be moved inside the church.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Autumn Care of Marion who Roger thought of as family. They would also like to thank longtime loved ones and friends, Johnny and Mildred Hensley and Josh Moore.
