Ted Phillip “Phil” Newton, 72, of Forest City, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
He was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on May 24, 1951 to the late Ted Hoover Newton and Mary Lucille Walker Newton. He is also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Brenda Bledsoe.
Phil was a lifetime resident of Rutherford County. He retired from Parker Hannifin as a machinist. He was an avid Duke fan who also loved fishing and gardening. More than anything, he was a good husband, a wonderful father, and a devoted grandfather who loved his grandchildren more than anything.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Verda Hutchins Newton; one son, Randy Newton (Tammy); two grandchildren, Chloe Newton and fiancé, Christopher Ruff and Gavin Newton; sister-in-law, Evelyn Rose; brother-in-law, Harold Hutchins (Rita); and five nieces and nephews, Nathan Rose, Wade Hutchins, Larry Bledsoe, Elaine Hutchins, and Rachel Hutchins.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Dr. Tony McCraw and Rev. Wayne Toney officiating. Burial will follow the service at Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Mills. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
