Talmadge James Rumfelt, age 72, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Charles George VA Medical Center’s Hospice & Palliative Care in Asheville. The son of the late Rosco James and Ethel Pack Rumfelt, he was born in McDowell County on September 07, 1944.
A great provider who loved his family, especially his grandson. Talmadge was known to be a handyman who was also a great mechanic. He was an avid drag racing fan. He enjoyed art, drinking his coffee; and loved life to the limit. Talmadge was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Michelle Rumfelt; and one brother, Tommy Rumfelt.
He is survived by two sons, Walt Rumfelt (Stacy) of Shelby and Mitch Rumfelt of Asheville; two brothers, Ronald Rumfelt and Steve Rumfelt; one sister Patricia McKinney; one grandson, Luke Rumfelt and a special companion, Gennie Padgett.
A celebration of Talmadge’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 05, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with Chaplain Richard Anderson officiating. Inurnment will follow with military honors provided by the United States Air Force.
