Sue Finley

December 16, 1939 — August 9, 2016

 

Sue Parkins Finley, age 76, of Marion, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Mountain Ridge Health and Rehab in Black Mountain.  Born in Marion, North Carolina on December 16, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Riley and Bonnie Parkins.

 

A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Sue enjoyed watching TV and having the company of her family and friends visit with her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Finley; one sister, Anna Mills and one brother, Jim Parkins.

 

She is survived by her son, Scott Finley of Warner Robins, Georgia; two daughters, Sandy Bishop of Marion and Pam Cochran and her husband, Sheldon of Marion; one brother, Walter Parkins and his wife, Rose Ann of Nebo; five sisters, Ruby Scott of Morganton, Lillian Presnell of Nebo, Mary Alice Floyd and her husband, Roger of Marion, Polly McKinney and her husband, Paul of Nebo and Merle Bruns and her husband, George of Morganton.  Sue is also survived by six grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Zach Finley and his wife, Laura, Chelsea Finley, Amanda Waycaster and her husband, Dustin, Kasey Bishop, Chris Cochran and Kayla Cochran; and six great grandchildren, Luke, Jonathan, Cameron, Avery, Connor and Abby.

 

A funeral service will be held Friday, August 12, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church of Marion, where she was a member, with Revs. Gene Deaton, Justin Deaton and Ken Kelly officiating.  Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the church.

 

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Finley’s memory are asked to consider, McDowell County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 883, Marion, North Carolina 28752, in which Sue’s late husband, Roy was a former Chief and founding member.
