Steve Bailey, age 66, of Marion, North Carolina went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at his residence. A native of Rutherford County, Steve was born on November 16, 1952 to the late Hoyle and Betty Adams Bailey.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Gene Bailey.

Steve loved God and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marion where he taught Sunday School and was a deacon. He was a builder, fixer, hunter and loved to fish at Pawley’s Island. He loved anything outdoors including running and cycling, but most of all he loved his family especially his grandchildren. He was lovingly known to many as Poppy. Steve loved anything historical and could tell anything about the Bible. He was proud to be part of the CB’s in the Navy, his unit being NMCB24, Steel Worker First Class. He is a decorated combat Veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He retired with the 105 MP Battalion in the National Guard. Steve loved to volunteer his time with Hospice of McDowell in the “We Honor Veterans Program” and also volunteered to read with the students at West Marion Elementary School. Steve retired from the North Carolina Employment Security Commission as a senior veterans representative. While there he received multiple awards for his work with veterans.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Gail Wilson Bailey; one son, Chad Bailey (Cheneil); two grandchildren, Colby and Caydence Bailey and two nephews, Christopher and Gregory Bailey.
