Spc. Luis Enrique Herrera, 23, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, passed away tragically on Thursday, April 28, 2022.
A native of McDowell County, he was born on October 29, 1998.
Spc. Herrera served in the United States Army as a paratrooper and was most recently stationed at Fort Bragg. He truly enjoyed his work in serving our country and was the best at his job. Spc. Luis Herrera was assigned to Raider Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team and the 82nd Airborne Division. He had earned the following achievements: British Jump Wings, Parachutist Badge x1, ARCOM x2, AAM x1, NDSM x1, ASR x1, GWTEM x1, and GWTSM x1.
In high school, he was a talented wrestler and won the state championship. He had a love for the outdoors, especially fishing, and he enjoyed working on cars. Spc. Herrera was a friend to all who loved everybody, especially his wife. He was very authentic and did not mind being himself or going out of his way to make someone feel special. He enjoyed laughing and will be remembered as being a great guy all around.
Luis is survived by his wife Faith Herrera. He was blessed with two people in his life he called mom, Wilma Herrera, and Melissa Jones; his siblings, Adrianna and Loraina Herrera, Ishman Martino, and Ean Hughes. He is preceded in death by his father, Luis Herrera, Sr. and his sister, Annie Hope Martino.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. at New Manna Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., two hours prior to the service at the church.
The 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment plans to host a memorial for Spc. Herrera May 17th at Ft. Bragg.
