Shirley Nations Pollard, age 67, formally of Marion, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday June 18, 2017 at her home in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Born in Swain County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Marie Cochran Nations of Marion and the late Rev. Arvle Nations, Sr.
A 1967 graduate of Glenwood High School, Shirley attended James Sprunt Community College in Kenansville, North Carolina, graduated 2006 with honors; and lastly, attended the University of Mount Olive where she graduated in 2008 with honors. A loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother who enjoyed life, Shirley loved to travel and visiting wine vineyards.
She is survived by, in addition to her mother, her husband of 27 years, Dr. Rick Pollard; one son, Eric Trivett (Jessica); one step-son, Andy Pollard (Nicole); one step-daughter, Holly Pollard; and three brothers, Arvle Nations, Jr. (Naomi), James Nations (Susan) and Benny Nations. Also surviving are her five grandchildren, Jordan Trivett, Samantha Grice, Kayleigh Hand, Aaron Hand and Courtney Pollard; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Miss Shirley will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Rev. Michael Nations officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
