On the evening of Wednesday, November 20, 2019, while surrounded by her loved ones, Shirley “Nana” Louise Stockton of Marion, North Carolina, departed to be with the Lord at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville. Born in Johnson City, Tennessee on June 21, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Lillian Louise Bowers Royston.
Shirley will be remembered for the love she had not only for Jesus, but for the many children she had babysat, therefore many called her “Nana”. Although she was known to have been a quiet person, Shirley had a laughter that would light up the room. She was a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church.
Left to cherish her precious memories, her loving husband, Ray Stockton, whom they had their 54th anniversary on November 19, 2019; four children, Michael Ray Stockton of Spruce Pine, Randy Stockton of Marion, Keith Stockton (Cara) of Johnson City, Tenn. and Heather Radford (Doolie) of Marion; two sisters, Linda Hardin (Roger) and Barbara Ledford (Martin), both of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and one brother, Jerry Royston of Elizabethton, Tenn. Shirley is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren with one on the way (due next week); mother-in-law, Georgia Lavender; several nieces and nephews; numerous children she had babysat; many friends; church family; and last but not least, her special companion, “Bam Bam”.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Ray Stockton and Pastor Larry Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church.
Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Stockton’s memory are asked to consider, Bethel Free Will Baptist Church’s Building Fund, P.O. Box 26, Nebo, North Carolina 28761.
