Shirley Young Arrowood, loving mother, grandmother and friend, went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2018, surrounded by her family and friends, at her residence in Marion. A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born on December 22, 1940, Shirley was the daughter of the late Seth and Ruth Young.
A former member of Clinchfield United Methodist Church, Shirley was a current member at East Marion United Methodist Church. She enjoyed, not only spending time with her cats and drinking a cup of coffee, but doing yard work, especially her flowers, and visiting thrift stores.
Left to cherish her precious memories are her two children, Kim Arrowood Helms (Kevin) and Sam Arrowood (Angie), four grandchildren, Britt Helms (Autumn), Cody Helms, Samantha Chambliss (Michael) and Austin Arrowood. Shirley is also survived by a special friend, Nelson Weaver.
A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Phil Tate officiating. Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
