Sherry Nova Burnette

Sherry Nova Hendley Burnette, 74, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at her residence.

A native of McDowell County, she was born on July 22, 1946 to the late Gene and Marian Thompson Hendley.

Sherry retired from BellSouth after 32 years of service. Following retirement, she worked in the Old Fort Post Office. Sherry was very active in her church, First Baptist Church of Old Fort, and her community. She was the executive director for the Old Fort Crisis Ministry, and she served with Meals on Wheels until her death. She enjoyed taking care of her farm and spending time with her precious granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband, Al Burnette; her daughter, Nova Effler (Robbie); granddaughter, Erika Effler; three siblings, Sharon (Don) McClure, Terry (Delores) Hendley, and Max (Lanie) Hendley; and her nieces and nephews, Kristi Lawing, Kyle McClure, Daana McMahan, Carla Ellis, and Jennie Lonon.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Old Fort with Rev. Drew Dalton officiating. Interment will follow in Cherry Springs Memorial Park.
