Sherman Lee Johnson

Sherman Lee Johnson, age 69, of Marion, North Carolina, while surrounded by his loved ones, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at his residence.  The son of Ernest Johnson of Marion and the late Estelle Haney Johnson, Sherman was born in McDowell County on February 12, 1949.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one brother, Terry Allen Johnson; and close friend, Pastor Ron Carpenter. 

A kind gentleman who never hesitated to help anyone, Sherman loved fishing, his church family, but most of all, he loved his family.  A veteran of the United States Navy, he was a member of Cross Mill Pentecostal Holiness Church in Marion. 

Left to cherish his memories, in addition to his father, are his loving wife, Barbara Biddix Johnson; four children, Kim Johnson Morgan (Mark) of Nebo, Vickie Johnson Morris (Mark) of Marion, Randy Johnson (Amanda) of Marion and Steven Johnson (Sabrina) of Marion; one sister, Jewel Suttles (Harold) of Marion; and two brothers, J.D. Johnson of Marion and Dennis Johnson (Donna) of Marion.  He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Megan Morris, Chase Morris, Austin Johnson, Kaden Nelon and Bryson Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Vernon Woods.

The family will receive friends on the evening of Monday, October 22, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service in Marion.  A service to celebrate the life of Sherman will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Doug Beane-Hall officiating.

Mr. Johnson will be laid to rest on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.  Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy.
