Shelby Hollifield

Shelby Owensby Hollifield, age 78, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 20, 2016 at her home with her loving family by her side. Shelby was a native of McDowell County, born on October 1, 1937, and was the daughter of the late William Ray Owensby and Marjorie O’Dear Owensby.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Earl Hollifield; her beloved son Dwight Hollifield; and her brother Bill Owensby.

Shelby was a beautiful, loving person who never met a stranger. She was also known for her warm smile. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will truly be missed.

Mrs. Hollifield is survived by her daughter Debbie Hollifield; brother’s Kenneth Owensby, Dean Owensby and wife Leona; sister’s Judy Holland; Sue Hicks and husband Bobby; and Sandy Mathis. Shelby is also survived by her grandchildren Jill Hensley and husband Brian; Jake Harris and fiancé Anne, and Dara Ingram and husband Nathan; her two great grandchildren Landon Hensley and Kellan Ingram; and a number of nieces, nephews, special friends, and neighbors.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Hollifield will take place on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church, 965 Baldwin Avenue, Marion, N.C. with the Reverends Ray Stockton and Jack Ward  officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. prior to the service, at the church. Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
