Sgt. Michael "Bart" Goree

Sergeant Michael “Bart” Goree, age 61, of Nebo, North Carolina, following a very long battle with cancer, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 while at Autumn Care of Marion, his loving family was by his side.  Born on January 16, 1955 in Accomack County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Robert Herbert Goree, Sr. and Barbara Ann Atkins Goree. 

Sgt. Goree was an employee for the Department of Corrections for 28 years and retired in the year 2005.  Bart graduated from McDowell High School in 1973, enjoyed and excelled in all sports especially, football and basketball. He enjoyed racing, car shows, and traveling but most of all he loved his family and God. His favorite verse was John 3:16 (KJV). 

In addition to his parents, Bart is preceded in death by one brother, Ralph “Brad” Goree.

Bart dearly loved his family. His daughter, Alyssa Crooks and husband Matt of Charlotte, North Carolina, was always his princess; his son, Evan Goree and wife Ashley of Marion, North Carolina; grandson, Oliver of Marion, North Carolina; and Ronda Deaton of Marion, North Carolina, the children's mother. 

Leaving behind his wife, Revonda F. Goree, married February 14th, 2000 for 16 years. Revonda was his best friend and wife, always by his side, whom she loved dearly.  Bart is also survived by one brother, Robert “Buster” Herbert Goree, Jr.; and one niece, Ashley Goree.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Free Will Baptist Church, 2913 Harmony Grove Road in Nebo, with Revs. Norman Loveless, Bobby Revis and Bud Edwards officiating.  Interment, with graveside rights provided by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety-Adult Corrections, will follow in the church cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
