SFC (RET) John Edward Hogan

November 23, 1942 — December 25, 2016

 

 

John Edward Hogan, age 74, of Marion, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at his residence with his family by his side.  The son of the late Andy and Edna Sara Lail Hogan, he was born in Springfield, Ohio on November 23, 1942.

 

A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, John, following 20 years of service, retired from the United States Army and was a highly-decorated veteran having received numerous medals.  John, who was a mason for 38 years, was a member of Mystic Tie Lodge #237 AF & AM, in Marion. 

 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Michael Hogan; one granddaughter, Laura Parker; one sister, Ruby Hogan and one brother, Andy Hogan. 

 

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 6 ½ years, Donna B. Hogan of the home; two sons, John Hogan, Jr. (Josie) of Marion, and Larry Hogan (Cherrie) of Delaware; two step-children, Eddie Wright (J-Me) and Jessica Berutti, both of Marion; thirteen grandchildren, Carol, Larry, Jr., Victoria, Samantha, Savannah, Aaron, Candace, Nicole, Erin, Mariah, Donnie, Promise, Makenzy, Chris and Lil Eddie; and four great grandchildren, Klhoe, Daniel, Paislee, and Layla, also survive. 

 

A funeral service to honor the life of John will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Upton officiating.  Interment, with military and masonic graveside rites, provided by the United States Army and Mystic Tie #237, will follow at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at Bethel Baptist Church.

 

Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.  Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Hogan’s memory are asked to consider, a charity of one’s choice.
