Sandra Ann Six Harris

December 18, 1942 — September 14, 2023

Marion

Sandra Ann “Sandy” Six Harris, 80, of Marion, North Carolina, entered her heavenly home on Thursday, September 14, 2023, after a year-long battle with leukemia. Her loving family and friends and her faith in God carried her through this battle. Her last days were filled with gatherings in her home and doing the things that made her the happiest. She passed peacefully with loved ones by her side.

Sandy was the daughter of the late Hubert James Six and the late Lillian Mae Fouch Six of Wheelersburg, Ohio. She was born in Matewan, West Virginia, on December 18, 1942, and grew up in Lancaster, Ohio. She was an alumnus of Cumberland College in Kentucky, where she met her loving husband of 59 years, Ernest Harris. They were married on June 7, 1964, in Lancaster, Ohio. Together, they had two children, and dedicated their lives to Christian ministry.

Sandy partnered with her husband for 50 years as a Pastor’s Wife. She was a great encourager, social planner, and Vacation Bible School Director. She wrote and directed Christmas plays as well as many puppet and clown skits. A highlight for Sandy was a mission trip to the Philippines in 2018. She was an amazing cook and gathered folks around the table for weekly Sunday dinners.

Her creativity flowed through playing the mountain dulcimer, crafts, and oil painting. Her paintings have become an important part of her story. They are treasured by family and friends and bring a message of healing. Prints and cards of her work have traveled around the world. She was honored to have some of her prints chosen for display and purchase at the Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove.

She was the ultimate hostess who loved to laugh, and more than anything else she loved spending time with family and friends. Likewise, her family and friends loved spending time with her. A child at heart, she had a gift for making others feel seen and loved, tapping into the joy of their own inner child. She was known for always thinking of others before herself. She especially loved kids, and was a treasure to those who were lucky enough to call her mom, Memaw, Aunt, Great Aunt, and friend. She showered them with love through custom birthday cakes, treehouse parties, painting, puppets, music, handmade Christmas pajamas, card games, magic tricks, and Bible Studies.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Ernest Harris, of Marion; her daughter Diane (John) McFerrin, of Black Mountain; her son, Rick Harris, of Black Mountain; her grandchildren, Lilli McFerrin and Jake McFerrin, both of Black Mountain; her brother, Hubert James (Ann) Six, Jr., of Winder, Georgia; and a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends who were family to her.

She sprinkled her love of Jesus Christ in everything she did. Her family and friends will miss her always but rejoice in knowing that we will see her again when we join her in heaven.
