Sammie Noblitt, 78, of Old Fort had her prayer answered when the Lord called her home unexpectedly while she slept on September 1st. She woke up in Heaven.
Sammie was born March 1st 1938 to the late Brownlow and Gladys Allison of the Crooked Creek Community. She was also proceeded in death by a son, Mark Anthony; daughter, Amber Faith; and a brother, Glen Allison.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Master Sergeant Retired USAF Loren Noblitt of the home; daughters Vikki Patton and her husband David of Goldsboro NC, Valli Bowen and her partner Dennis Bradley of Old Fort and Tracy Rhodes and her husband Billy of Old Fort; a son Richard Noblitt of the home; and family friend Bryan Flynn of the home. Her brother, Raymond Allison; and sisters, Hilda Knupp, Lottie Washburn, Candy McPherson and her husband Joe, all of Old Fort. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of other important friends and family.
She was a lifelong member of the Mt. Hebron Wesleyan Church and her Christian faith and love of the Lord shown through in all aspects of her day to day life, reading her Bible every night before falling asleep.
After graduating from high school she married her high school sweetheart, Loren, and when he enlisted in the USAF the adventure truly began!! She was a devoted military wife and mother. Wherever the military took her family, she embraced the culture and insured her family was cultured as well! From National Parks to Battlefields, unique foods and customs, to languages, she immersed herself in all of it. She also insured the family never missed out on a new experience, taking many day trips to camp, fish or hunt. For 23 years she took care of things on the home front while her husband served our country; she was a proud military wife.
While at Kadina AFB in Okinawa, Sammie was trained as a master tailor. She also started the very first Girl Scout Troop on Okinawa. She loved learning a new craft or project and enjoyed macramé, ceramic design, oil painting, and lapidary. She learned everything she could and was a lifelong learner of the crafting arts.
After returning to Old Fort in 1977, she was co-owner of Sarges Seafood and Galley and the Crooked Creek General Store. She then worked as a switchboard operator for McDowell Hospital and retired after 21 years. In addition to working, she instructed oil painting through McDowell Technical Community College at the Senior Center for over a decade. For several years she taught ceramics out of her home. Teaching and working with the public was a true passion of her life.
She loved traveling when she could and especially enjoyed trips with the "Sisters!"
She was the ROCK of her family and was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She made everyone feel unique and special, and most importantly, loved beyond measure. A favorite quote of hers throughout all the years and the 1000's of miles, was that "Our family is the most important thing, no matter where we are in the world we will always have each other."
The family will receive friends at Mt. Hebron Wesleyan Church 2473 Mt. Hebron Rd, Old Fort, NC, 28762 on Monday September 5th, from 5 to 7pm.
