On the night of Thursday, July 20, 2023, Sam Buckner passed away at Carepartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville. A native of McDowell County, Sam was born on February 24, 1948 to the late George and Julia Ann Bean Buckner.
He is preceded in death by six brothers and seven sisters.
Sam was a faithful member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church where he played the guitar. His passion was playing music in which he played in several bands most recently Rewind Band for fourteen years. Sam enjoyed spending time with family taking trips to Pigeon Forge Tennessee. He enjoyed fresh decaf coffee and playing cards with his granddaughter.
Sam is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Judy Moore Buckner; one daughter, Julie Buckner Buchanan; one sister, Janet Moore and one granddaughter, Amelia Jual Padgett.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Reverends Harold Webb, Gary Lavender and Mr. Mickey Arney officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Cherry Springs Memorial Park.
