Russell Douglas Murphy, 67, of Marion, North Carolina, left this earthly life Saturday, July 02, 2022 at the Memorial Campus in Asheville.
He was born on October 10, 1954 to the late Fred Douglas Murphy and Minnie Bernice Wilson Murphy. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford Wilson and Frankie Wilson; and a nephew, Ryan Patric Murphy.
Russell was a long-haul truck driver and also worked in manufacturing. He was a kindhearted, friendly, jolly, and likeable man who never met a stranger. A member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, Russell loved his family, his church family, and his Lord. He enjoyed motorcycles, drag racing, fishing, cooking, and eating. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Those left to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Alice Marie Tate Murphy; three children, Melanie Freeman, Rustin Murphy, and Brittini Murphy; three grandchildren, Tatyanna Freeman, Tyra Blac, and Marques Fair, Jr.; four siblings, Vincent Wilson, Freddie Mae Murphy, Robert Murphy, and Gladys Murphy; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral service in celebration of Russell’s life will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Smith officiating assisted by Ministers Marcus Roberts, Vernon Odom, and Snapper Greene. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:30 p.m., a half hour prior to the service.
