In the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 8, 2019, Ruby Ellen Hill Silver, age 93, of Dysartsville, North Carolina, departed to be with the Lord at Mission Hospital-McDowell. The daughter of the late Frank and Mary Condrey Hill, she was a native of McDowell County, born on January 30, 1926.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Silver; one infant daughter, Mary Lou Silver; and daughter, Cassandra Silver Hutchins; four sisters, Ethel Lail, Gladys Barlowe, Nola Manis and Myrtle Oliver; and two brothers, James Hill and Carl Hill.
Ruby will be remembered for her love of cooking, gardening and fishing with her family. Having been a homemaker until her children were raised, she later retired from Drexel Furniture following 22 years. Ruby enjoyed listening to gospel music and was a faithful member of Sunny Grove Baptist Church in Dysartsville.
She is survived by three sons, Allen Silver (Lesa), David Silver and Kenneth Silver (Carolyn); one son-in-law, Bill Hutchins; two sisters, Helen Hoyle and Martha Wilson; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and many church family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunny Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Doug McPeters officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
