Ruby Lee Ayers

Ruby Lee Ayers, age 82, of the Glenwood Community, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at her residence following a brief illness.  The daughter of the late James and Lola Ray Roberts, she was born in Asheville, North Carolina on December 31, 1935.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Aileen Peterson.

Ruby was a small woman on the outside but her spirit was ginormous. She walked in faith and always treated others the way she knew God wanted. She was quiet with her words but her actions were bold. She was a caretaker of many and found joy in helping others.

Ruby was very simple and never needed much to be happy. Her greatest achievement was when she gained the title of “Memaw”, She wore that crown proudly. Being a grandmother brought her so much joy. One thing Ruby had was style and she made sure that her grandchildren were always dressed to impress. Maybe not being able to provide as much for her own children in the 50’s as she would have liked when times were much different than they are now she took full advantage of her 2nd chance with her grandchildren.  Always there with open arms, and never an ill word she was the grandmother of all grandmothers. With Sunday dinners and her famous million-dollar pie she brought us all so much love and showed others what being selfless was. Her joy came from the people she loved and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were what she cherished.

Ruby retired from Drexel Heritage where she met her best friend of over 28 years, Thurley Burnette. The two often met for lunch and shopping trips and hair appointments. It was the simple things that gave Ruby happiness.

As she spent her days here on earth with such love and grace she is now in heaven to live eternity in peace.

Those left to cherish Ruby’s memories are two daughters, Brenda Hall and Ronda Kuehne; three grandchildren, Melissa Hall, Valerie Ceron and Zachary Kuehne; five great grandchildren, Zane Hall, Alec Hall, Julius Hall, Jovian Hall and Nikki Ceron; and four siblings, Gene Roberts (Gail), Larry Roberts, Gladys Bass and Dexter Roberts.  Ruby is also survived by her nephew Ricky Roberts who stayed in the home and helped care for Ruby and her brother.

A celebration of Ruby’s life will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service.
