Royce Lee Hall, age 91, of Micaville, North Carolina, while surrounded by his family and friends, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at his residence. A native of Yancey County, North Carolina, born March 2, 1927, he was the son of the late Leland and Ollie Hilliard Hall.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Iris Buchanan Hall, who passed away on September 5, 2013; and one sister, Betty Hall Shehan and her husband, Robert.
An avid fisherman, Royce enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. A student and firm believer, he loved to read his Bible and was known to read it every day. Royce was a 40-year employee of Glen Raven Mills in Burnsville and was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served in Germany. Preceding WWII, he served as a guard patrolman and enjoyed sharing stories of his time in service.
Royce is survived by two sons, Stephen R. Hall (Holly) of Burnsville and Larry Dale Hall (Brenda) of Micaville; one daughter, Susan Hall Good (Tom) of Micaville; and one brother, Maurice Hall (Mary) of Newdale. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Tressa (Shannon), Chris (Misty), Raegan (Travis), Jarrod (Casey), Amy (Daniel) and T.J. (Crystal); two step granddaughters, Michelle (Gerald) and Rhonda (Marty); several great grandchildren; and special friend and co-worker who he truly respected, Frank Fox.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Hughes Cemetery in Yancey County with Chaplain Williams Ellis officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army. Casual attire is appropriate.
