Roy Dean Sowers, 72, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Mission Hospital McDowell.
A native of McDowell County, he was born February 14, 1953 to the late Starlin Bennett Sowers and Betty Jean Padgett Sowers.
With a career that spanned more than three decades, Roy Dean devoted 35 years to the furniture business until its departure from the area. Following that chapter of his life, he brought his skills to BMW, where he retired after seven years before later enjoying a part-time position at the Marion Lake Club.
He was an avid sports fan and participant. Throughout the years, he played softball and basketball in various leagues. He also served as umpire and referee. Golfing was his lifelong passion, and he particularly enjoyed the sport after his retirement. His heavy involvement in community sports led to countless friends in his life. A faithful member of Nealsville Church of God, Roy Dean’s devotion to his faith was evident in his love for the Lord and his cherished church family.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Teresa Gaddy Sowers; two sons, Matthew Sowers (Andrea) and Taylor Sowers (Casey); two grandchildren, Ashley (Joshua) and Zamora; two great-grandchildren, Adaleigh and Alton; and two sisters, June Sowers Burnett (Jim) and Deb Sowers O’Brien (Bob).
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. at Nealsville Church of God. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug Carpenter and Rev. Kevin Norton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
