Roxie Gunter

Roxie Kirkland Gunter, age 91, of Nebo, North Carolina went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Deer Park Health and Rehabilitation. A native of Swain County, Roxie was born on January 17, 1928 to the late Oscar and Eva Woody Kirkland.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband Arthur Gunter.

Roxie was a lifelong member of Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and canning and was known as being a wonderful cook. She was always taking care of others; her life was her family and her church. She was a wonderful mother, sister and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.

Those left behind to cherish Roxie’s memory are three children, Jean G. Pool (Thomas), Jerry Gunter (Gloria) and Michael Gunter (Kim); and one brother, Dennis Kirkland. Also surviving Roxie are seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Alan Sailors officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the church.
