Ronnie G. Smith

Ronnie G. Smith, 71, entered the gates of Heaven on March 28, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

The Bible says in 2 CORINTHIANS 5:8, We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. We are confident that our daddy, papaw Ronnie is with our Savior, a place he longed to be for many months prior to his passing.

Daddy owned several businesses, including Smith’s Shell, Handy Rentals, Smith Busing, Country Squire Cafe, and Blue Ridge Bus Tours, retiring from Leviton.

Daddy was the baby of 7 children, born to the late John and Cumy Garrett Smith. His wife Sandy Smith predeceased him, along with 5 siblings, Vera Crisp, Virginia Smith, Imogen Hogan, Harold Smith, Darrell Smith, and his best friend Benny Duncan.

Daddy was a Godly man who loved going to Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, where he was a member. He loved old fashioned preaching and singing.

We, his children are surviving, by God’s amazing Grace, Clorissa Durkee (Wayne), Winfred Smith (Sherri), Joy Johnson (Steve). Grandchildren, Brittany Smith (Kevin), Bethany Hollifield (Joshua), Dillon Johnson (Mikayla), Morgan and Nick Johnson, Joshua and Thomas Smith. Great grandchildren, Adisyn, Khloe, Nehemiah, Cora-Ruth, Colten, Amelia, his Sister, Lavonne Clontz (Monte), his caregiver and dear friend Gary Phillips, and fur son Opie Taylor. A multitude of nieces and nephews also survive.

We will lay our beloved daddy to rest at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery after his last church service at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church on Veterans Drive. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the church followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m.

At all other times the family will gather at 59 Tanglewood Drive, Marion.
