Roger Neil Washburn

On the evening of Sunday, April 21, 2019, while surrounded by his loved ones, Roger Neil Washburn, age 38, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away at the Community Living Center at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville.  The son of James “Jimmy” Washburn of Nebo and Guyanna Bollinger of Morganton, he was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on August 22, 1980.

Roger was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bobby Ray and Louise Porter Caudill; paternal grandfather, Paul Dewey Washburn; and one step-son, Joshua Ryan Leroy Sexton.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Roger enjoyed snowboarding, skating and cooking, but most all, spending quality time with his family and friends.  He was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church in Morganton and had recently been attending Sunny Grove Baptist Church in Nebo. 

Roger is survived by his parents, James “Jimmy” Washburn (Rebecca) and Guyanna Bollinger (Jimmy); one daughter, Tifaney Eden Washburn; one son, Rylan Jax Washburn; step-daughter, Kaelyn Nicole Sexton; one brother, James “Nick” Washburn (Tammy); one sister, Jennifer Icard; and one step-sister, Diamond Young (Jamie).  He is also survived by paternal grandmother, Gladys Washburn; the mother of his children, Phedra Washburn; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Roger’s life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Sunny Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Doug McPeters officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., two hours prior to the service, at the church.  In keeping with his wishes, his cremains will be scattered at sea.
